►Location Description: To the north west of Malta is Bugibba, Qawra and St Paul’s Bay. Overlooking Salina Bay is Qawra (pronounced ‘Aw-rah’) and Bugibba (pronounced ‘Boojiba’). Both resorts have modern pedestrian centres with shops, bars and restaurants designed to cater for the many visitors from many different countries. St Paul’s Bay has a monumental place in Maltese history. It was here that the Apostle Paul and St Luke were washed ashore following their shipwreck in AD60, bringing Christianity to Malta. Despite its historic significance, the quaint fishing village of St Paul’s Bay has remained remarkably unaffected by tourism. Bugibba is the busiest beach resort in Malta - it is buzzing both during the day and at night! Life in this exciting town is centred around Bugibba square, with its thriving bars, take-aways, restaurants and a casino. A brand new cinema complex is found just up the road, and the area is full of hotels. The Island of Malta: Set in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, half way between Sicily and North Africa, the Maltese archipelago consists of five islands: Malta, Gozo, Comino and two uninhabited islands, Cominetto and Filfla. The size of Malta is about 27 km long by 14.5 km width, taking just over an hours drive between its two furthest points. After all its a small world isn't it? The Islands are only 93kms south of Sicily and 288 km north of Africa. Just a short distance away, considering that some of us drive further than this to go to work. Air Malta is its official airline which hosts flights to a number of European and Middle Eastern cities. During summer, ferry services are available between Malta and Sicily. A trip to Catania (Sicily) taking only three hours |
