Valletta
It was as a result of the first siege of Malta in
1556 that the foundations were laid for the present day
Valletta and the building of a city and harbour - which
more than two centuries later were described by both Napoleon and
Nelson as the greatest stronghold in Europe.
Today’s Valletta has retained the charm of the past, yet it is
buzzing with boutiques, cafés and restaurants. It is also the
heart of the country’s business activities.
